2008 Update 6-26-08
DOWNLOAD AND CARRY THE COURSE DIRECTIONS WITH YOU!
THERE IS FOUL PLAY ABOUT!
Never before in the history of the Cascade Cream Puff has anyone
every changed course markings during the event...and hopefully it
won't happen this year either. With that said...someone did change
the course markings this past weekend. We make every attempt at keeping
you informed of the correct directions to go. You must also pay attention
to the roads and trails you are on. We will be checking the course
markings before, during and after the race. Please, please, please
carry these directions with you at all times while you are on the
course whether pre-riding or racing. Some of the locations are remote
in relation to the start of the event. If you have a GPS it would
also be good to have it with you. Maps and GPS data are available
on-line at the the TopoFusion.com website http://topofusion.com/race.php.
The Middle Fork Ranger District is the best local map for the area.
I will have them available at race registration for $5.00 cash.
The Cascade Cream Puff mountain bike race will begin at the beginning
of road 19 (located in Westfir, Oregon at the Red Covered Bridge).
Race start time 5:15am. Mountain bike racers will be led out by a
lead motor vehicle, as a neutral start (slow start to protect racers
from injury), North on road 19. Once it is determined it is safe
for the racers/riders the lead motor vehicle will pull away from
the race peliton and proceed to the intersection of road 19 and road
1910 where the occupants of the vehicle will provide traffic control
until all racers/riders have past by the intersection. There will
also be a follow vehicle until racers/riders have all past intersection
of roads 19 and 1910. Signage will be placed at the intersection
of roads 19 and 1910 informing other users of a bicycle event in
progress.
Riders will proceed up road 1910 (North) to the intersection of road
1911 (approximately 8 miles) to the location of Aid Station #2. Riders
turn Left onto road 1911 (West) and follow the road (approximately ¼ mile)
to the intersection with the Alpine Trail (#3450).
Turn Left onto Alpine Trail and follow it to the intersection of
the Tire Mountain Trail (#3485), (approximately 1 ½ miles).
Turn Right onto the Tire Mountain Trail and follow it (Northwest)
until the bottom end of the trail at the intersection with road 5824
(approximately 6 miles). (Road 5824 will be used as an evacuation
route in the event of an emergency.)
Continue (Northwest) by turning Right onto the Winberry Divide Trail
(#3476) located at the intersections of road 5824, and the Tire Mountain
Trail. Riders follow the Winberry Divide Trail to its conclusion
at the intersection with road 5823 (Another possible evacuation route
in the event of an emergency, only accessible by vehicle until approximately
2 miles from the bottom of the road where it intersects with road
5821 secondary to a landslide.) Road 120 located off road 5823 may
also be used as an evacuation route in the event of an emergency.
Road 120 parallels the Winberry Divide Trail for a good portion of
the trail, providing several access points for evacuation.
Continue (Northwest) on road 5823 (approximately 100 yards) to the
intersection of the Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail (aka: Northshore
Tie trail) (#3559).
Continue (Northwest) onto the Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail (aka
Northshore Tie Trail) (#3559) (for approximately ½ mile) to
the intersection of trails #3559 and the relatively new trail (#
and name unknown: we call this the Winberry Tie Trail ) The trail
travels downhill (North) to the intersection with road 100 (located
just above Winberry Creek).
Turn Right onto (# unknown) the Winberry Tie Trail and follow it
(North) to its conclusion at the intersection with road 100 (approximately
2 ½ miles).
Turn Right (Southeast) on road 150 travel approx seven miles to road
151.
Continue Straight (North) on road 151 follow it approx three miles
to intersection with road 1802.
Turn Right (Northeast) on road 1802 (You will pass Aid Station #4
in about one mile.) follow it approx seven miles to intersection
with road 1911 and 1912.

miles to intersection with the Alpine Trail.
Turn Left (West) onto the Alpine Trail.
Turn Right (Northwest) onto the Tire Mountain Trail.
Repeat Tire Mountain, Winberry Divide, Northshore Tie (aka: Eugene
to Crest trail), and Winberry Tie trails. Also repeat roads 150,
151, 1802, and 1911 past Aid Stations #3 and #4 back to Aid Station
#2.
Turn Right (West) and continue on road 1911 to the intersection of
the Alpine Trail (#3450) (approximately ¼ mile).
Turn Left (West) onto the Alpine Trail (#3450) and follow it (approximately
8 miles) to it’s intersection with the Westfir Tie Trail (#
unknown). Riders will cross over several roads along the way to the
intersection with the Westfir Tie Trail: road 683, road 5828, road
013, road 5828 (again), road 580, and road 576.
Turn Left (East) onto the Westfir Tie Trail (# unknown) and follow
it (approximately 1 mile) to the intersection of road 202.

the Westfir Portal (Red Covered Bridge Park). This is the location
of Aid Station #1.Aid Station #1 will have all the amenities of Aid

is located on City of Westfir property.
Riders will then go back (Northeast) on road 202 to the intersection
of the North Fork Trail (#3666).
Turn Right onto the North Fork Trail (#3666) and follow (approximately
4 miles) it to it’s intersection with road 1910.
Riders continue (North) on road 1910, climbing it (for approximately
8 miles) for the second time of the day to intersection of road 1911.
Turn Left on road 1911 then continue down the Alpine trail for their
final descent back to the Red Covered Bridge in Westfir.
Finish at the park.

Here's the latest as of May 12th, 2008: the course is yet to be
determined, there is still a lot of snow in the mountains, including
last years course! This is the most snow we have had in the past
50 years! Attached are maps from last year. Do not count on them
as this years course. We can't even get to Aid Station #2 yet! But
don't panic...we will still have another awesome CCP this year! We
will still have a large percentage of Single Track (we just don't
know where yet!) We will be back at the school, same as last year.
Activities will be similar to last year. www.cascadecreampuff.com

corner…we’re almost there…Cascade Cream Puff

Welcome back, if you’re returning to the fraternity/family

Come early, stay late! Official activities start on Friday, June

Sunday, June 15th (If we can get through the snow!!!) ; follow the
ORANGE & BLACK striped ribbon. If there are multiple strips of
ribbon hanging on one side or the other of a road/and or trail it
means you are going to be turning that direction at the intersection.
There are also ORANGE & WHITE KONA directional arrows to follow;
international course marking standards apply. Do not go where the
FLUORESCENT PINK ribbon is. The FLUORESCENT PINK ribbon indicates
you are going the wrong way or Danger Ahead! RED X also indicates
you are going the wrong way! Come and pre-ride (or ski) the course.
Please be careful, and be careful not to skid. “It’s
about the trails and community.”
